FAQ’s

What is this check in thing.

The check in times listed for the ride are the earliest time you can check in and the later time listed is when we stop the check in process. We also need to make sure everyone who registered, made it to a good lunch. Remember, it is best to get there for the time the checkin opens. When you check in with the Ride Master, please make sure you have your start receipt with the location and time and date underlined on the receipt. If you do not checkin within the nominated times, unfortunately we cannot class you as a finisher for that ride.

On your SCDR Rides you talk about doing the ride in a a specific timeframe can you clarify this.

Most riders will do the ride in the same day, leave in the early hours and get back home later that same day. However this really means the time you started the ride, to the time you finish the ride, inclusive of the checkin time and the meet time at lunch. You must have done the K’s you registered for in the 24Hrs for that ride. For a full definition of this please read our Ride Rules as posted on our website.

What’s this 12Hr ride you guys have.

It is a slightly shorter version for the riders who are not sure if they can do the longer rides. This is generally a same day ride as you only get 12 Hrs, from start to finish, but you do need to watch how long you stay for the lunch, as this ride requires the 800k’s in 12 Hrs. This ride is also a good option for those that live really close to the lunch meet point. The same rules apply as per the 24Hr rides, but 12Hrs instead of 24Hrs.

What’s it cost.

To meet with fellow SCDR Riders, not much. SCDR organises the location. You pay for your fuel to get there and back, plus feeding yourself at the lunch meet up.

But I only live 50k from the Ride to Eat destination and I want to go.

We don’t care where you live but we expect everyone to do the minimum K’s in a day that you registered for, so you might just have to head off somewhere and come back.

I live 800k away so I would have to ride 1600k for the day.

Yeah, your maths is correct. However if you are doing a minimum 1600k day contact us first for the other options available. And we have a 12Hr ride option or you could stay the night.

So if I live at or close to the destination where should I get my fuel docket from.

This is a trust thing, but if you like you can get one from home and one at the turnaround point before heading back to the Ride to Eat destination.

Will you be checking our trip meters etc.

Nope, its up to you. We just want people to attempt a long ride and have fun doing it. However if you want to zero your trip meter before leaving and let us see, that would be great just so we can give you a good old well done.

Will you help with planning.

We can offer hints if you have never done any distance before, but the planning is part of the fun leading up to the day.

Can I camp over and ride home the Next Day.

Sure thing. Just remember what the earliest start time is and get your K’s done in the 12 or 24Hrs. Plenty of riders have done that before.

So do I get bragging rights if I travel the most k’s.

At the meet you will just be another Long Distance Rider. However, in your own mind you can be anything you like.

But I like to stop every 100k and have coffee, can I come.

If you want to, but plan well as its going to take you longer so you better get up REAL early.

What kind of bike can I use on these rides.

If you can ride 1000k a day on it, come on down. This is non bike specific, type or size as long as you are licensed, and the bike is registered.

What if I break down.

Well that would not be good ! However as the various ride dates get closer we will make the mobile number of the Ride Master available so you can call and leave us a message, so we don’t worry. It is up to the rider to organize their own rescue, but the ride master will be looking out if a rider does not show up at the meeting point and time. However we do not make  riders numbers publicly available for privacy.

So is speeding ok.

The short answer, NO. If we hear anyone talking about speeding we will be not be impressed. We do many k’s in short time frames and can tell you it is not speed that does it, its consistency and efficiency. A ride or qualification will be cancelled if bragging or stories reach admin about speeding.

How long will you guys be there at the lunch.

That depends on how far each rider has to travel home, an SCDR Ride Master will be there until everyone is organised to head off. At most Rides so far we have been at the destination for 1-3hrs.

What about daylight saving time or time zones, how does that work.

Time to meet is based on the time zone of the destination point on the day. So, if you cross a border, double check your ride plan ! If you are still unsure send an email to admin@scdr.au and we can discuss your queries.

The distances were chosen as they are doable within speed limits with time to eat and chat in the middle and still get home safely within the day.
The aim here is to have a group that likes to ride longer distances and generally on your own. Doing the ride in a small group is fine, just remember that this is not a club organized ride. It is a “ride to eat” day.
