Ride Rules

Rule No 1:  ( The only rule ) Come home safe

Requirements For Our Rides

You can not just be a member of the SCDR. You must qualify. To attain your membership your first ride must be on an organized ride as published on this website. A starting fuel receipt ( or other approved receipt such as ATM receipt ) must be obtained making sure it has your start time, date and place. You must then attend at the designated meeting place and check in within the required times presenting your start receipt to the Ride Master for that ride. Carry on with your ride when ready, but when finished you must complete a finish form showing your final distance travelled within the 12 or 24 hours of time. This is not your ride time, but 12 or 24 hours in total ( including any breaks or stoppages, start receipt timestamp to finish receipt timestamp ) This will then be documented in the members Rider History, available to the public and / or your mates. The finish form can be lodged at any time after the ride such as the next day or so but remember the ride organizers may be waiting for your response in case you have had problems and we will not “chase you up” for the finish form.

An approved receipt is an electronically printed receipt that shows the place, time and date. ( Check the time is correct! ) Hand written receipts are NOT acceptable.

All riders MUST hold the appropriate and valid class license for the motorcycle they are riding and display any additional plates as required by law.

Be aware that the ride class you register for is the ride that will be recognized on your history whether you do more, but not less. The class of ride may be changed ( by contacting the Admin Team, do NOT fill out another registration form ) at any time up until the time that the ride is closed, usually a couple of days before the ride itself.

If this is your first ride ( you can not register for a class above an SC10 ) a membership number will be allocated to you and a ride history created when you complete the ride successfully. If you were previously a qualified member of FarRiders, please use your old FarRider number when registering for your first ride with us. The above restriction will not apply if we can verify your ride history ( we have a copy which will be included in your ride history ).

Before you attempt this ride, The ride will be opened for registration on this website via the link on the ” Our Rides” page . Please follow the link and complete the registration form.

Your ride registration will show rider, or pillion, mobile number, bike and emergency contact. ( Emergency Contact is Mandatory, to enable us to pass on the information to Emergency Services as required ) Registration for the ride is vital so that the team leader can expect who is attending and act if you don’t arrive. This is also to allow the facility we go to, to be prepared for our attendance.

If you do not register, your ride will not be acknowledged. If you do not attend the destination within the allotted times, your ride will be disqualified ( DNF ). The team leader will be in control of the actual time ( As per the time on the Ride Master’s mobile phone ) and no discussion will be had or decision changed by the organizers. Again, you can not claim another ride class once you have registered either lower or greater.

800 KILOMETRES IN 12 HOURS ( SC8 )

This is an introduction to long distance riding. There is a challenge to achieve a constant travelling average with minimal stops. Planning is the key. Remember “fail to plan means plan to fail”. Know where you are at regular intervals or towns and then this ride is relatively easy.

Do not forget, it is up to you and there is no shame in pulling out of the ride for any reason. If you are riding with others do your own ride, not theirs.

To begin you must first register for the ride by going onto the SCDR Website ( Our Rides )  and follow the directions as published. A starting fuel receipt ( or other approved receipt as explained above ) must be obtained making sure it has the time, date and place. You must then attend at the designated meeting place and check in within the required times with the Ride Master showing your start receipt. When ready, carry on with your ride and when finished you must complete a finish form ( linked on our forum ) showing your final distance travelled within the 12 hours of time. This is not your ride time but 12 hours in total length start time to finish time.

This will then be documented in the members Rider History on the SCDR website.

1000 KILOMETRES IN 24 HOURS ( SC10 )

This is the standard ride that most riders attempt and has no pre-requisites for attempting this ride.. The requirements are as above in registering your ride via the website ( our Rides ). A starting fuel receipt ( or other approved receipt ) must be attained making sure it has the time, date and place. You must then attend at the designated meeting place and present the receipt to the Ride Master at the designated meeting point within the required checkin times as published on the Information Sheet for the ride. The designated checkin window is regulated by the Ride Master alone and no discussion will be had. Carry on with your ride when ready, but when finished you must complete a finish form showing your final distance travelled within the 24 hours timeframe. This is not your ride time but 24 hours in total length start time to finish time.

This will then be documented in the members Rider History on the SCDR website.

Be aware that the ride class you register for is the ride that will be recognised on your history whether you do more, but not less. Less will be classed as a DNF. The class of ride may be changed at any time up until the time that the ride is closed, usually a couple of days before the ride itself.

1200 KILOMETRES IN 24 HOURS ( SC12 )

This ride is for the more adventurous person who has successfully completed 4 or more SC10’s. The requirements are as for the other lower classes of ride in that you must first register for the ride by going onto the SCDR Website ( Our Rides ) and following the link to the registration form.  A starting fuel receipt ( or other approved receipt ) must be obtained making sure it has the time, date and place. You must then attend at the designated meeting place and check in with the Ride Master within the required times ( as published in the Information Sheet for that ride ) showing your start receipt. Carry on with your ride when ready, but when finished you must complete a finish form ( Linked from the website ) showing your final distance travelled within the 24 hours timeframe. This is not your ride time, but 24 hours in total, start receipt to finish receipt.

This will then be documented in the members Rider History on the SCDR website.

DOCUMENTED 1200 KILOMETRES IN 24 HOURS ( SC12D )

This ride is to help prepare you for an Iron Butt Association ride of 24 hours or more.

The first condition is the need to have successfully completed 4 or more SC10’s. You must then register for the ride by going to the SCDR website ( Our Rides ) and complete the Ride Registration for the ride you will be attending.

The requirements for the ride itself are the same as an SC12 but must include full documentation. This requires a starting receipt showing the location and time and date started. A Ride Log ( available from the Forum in the Documented Rides board ) showing receipt number, distance and location. A ride map should also be drawn or created using Google Maps showing receipt locations and towns marked. A receipt is required for all fuel stops and corner locations ( see further on ) including a finish receipt at the end of your ride. This documentation is then to be compiled into a PDF file and submitted to the Admin Team after you have completed the finish form. If approved the ride will then be added to your ride history.

A corner docket is required where you must ride to a location to achieve the distance that the ride requires, turn around or deviate from the main route and ride back onto your original route. This shows the verification staff your actual route which they can use to check distance and time verification. Any printed commercial receipt can be submitted showing the time, place and date but not a handwritten one. An ATM receipt checking the balance or buy a bottle of water, chocolate, fuel or food is the usual way of getting the record.

SOUTHERN CROSS DOCUMENTED RIDES

A documented ride is one that can be completed at any time and not during an organised ride.

To attempt this ride or rides you are required to be an existing member and adhere to the other restrictions published above. That is an SC8 or SC10 can be completed but you are required to have successfully completed 4 SC10’s to claim an SC12 or SC12D. It would be preferable to contact an Admin Member and tell them of your intentions so that you have help if required. In order to claim a documented ride you must have a start receipt with a photo of it and your bike odometer at the start of your ride. All other fuel stops or corner turns require receipts. A final photo is then required, showing the finish receipt and your bike’s odometer. A short story must be written and published ( extra photo’s would also be good ) on the forum under documented rides. A map showing the route taken would also be of interest. At least 3 of your riding peers must then like or approve your ride, to be accepted and added to your ride history. The peers however must not be any other rider that accompanies you on this ride. If there is more than one rider, each rider will need to complete a story, have photos, their own Ride Log sheet and receipts for them to achieve the ride qualification. The time period is purely the total time of the ride ( Start receipt to finish receipt times ) and not riding time.

Do not forget, it is up to you and there is no shame in pulling out of a ride for any reason.

Remember safety is the main priority, if things are not feeling right, turn around and go home or stop and have a break, or whatever works to get you back home to try again another day.

** DISCLAIMER: By participating in any SCDR ride, ALL riders assume and take full liability and responsibility for any accident, injury, damage or property damage or loss associated with any ride organised by SCDR. SCDR will not condone or tolerate unsafe or antisocial behaviour. **
